For our upcoming voyage this year across the Middle East, we had expected to begin the whole thing in Egypt and make our way around counter-clockwiseto Turkey. But now I hear that if we have a stamp from Israel, we will not be allowed into Syria and perhaps a couple of other countries too. I’ve been trying to read about this situation and it seems like there are a number of conflicting reports about whether we should just bypass Israel altogether and take the ferry from Egypt to Aqaba in Jordan or if there’s some way to go anyway. It seems to me the most interesting information I’ve found is this blog post on “the dreaded Israel passport stamp” but this appears to be serious business so I am still on the prowl for more information.
